This beautiful beetle is entirely handmade from meticulously hand-pierced layers of sterling silver.
He is detailed with tiny wing cases and a crescent moon, and is set with a gorgeous Amber cabochon. The backplate has a cut-out detail which allows light to shine through and show off the gorgeous orange colour.
The silver has been darkened, or oxidised, to emphasise the texture and details. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that will lighten with wear so he has a layer of sealing lacquer and microcrystalline wax to help protect his oxidised surface.
‘Moon Beetle’ hangs from one of my sterling silver ‘Spirit’ chains which is finished with one of my handmade fixings.
