Inspired by the badger cubs we are privileged to have in our garden every spring, Bertie By Moonlight depicts a tiny baby badger beneath the night sky.
This pendant captures the inquisitive way badgers listen and sniff the air, sensing someone is near. Because their eyesight is poor, they rely heavily on these senses.
Created from four layers of meticulously hand cut sterling silver, Bertie measures just 19 mm and is hand engraved with a fur texture.
He sits on a sterling silver circlet detailed with a silver star and a crescent moon. The moon has been created using the silversmithing technique of reticulation, where sterling silver is heated and cooled many times to create a unique ripple like texture.
‘Bertie By Moonlight’ hangs from a sterling silver chain finished with one of my hand made clasps. 
The silver has been darkened, or oxidised, to emphasise the texture and details. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that will  lighten with wear. All oxidised areas are sealed with a layer of lacquer and waxed with a microcrystalline wax to help protect the oxidised surface.
As with all of my pieces, each and every jump ring is soldered closed to prevent any piece of the pendant coming apart or getting lost.
