This stunning pendant is a real statement piece, featuring a large moon crafted in high-quality sterling silver. ‘The Bat Moon’ is a large focal piece which is also suitable for everyday wear – a great addition to any bat lovers wardrobe.
The large full moon is totally handmade from reticulated sustainably sourced sterling silver. Reticulation is a silversmithing technique which involves heating and cooling the silver multiple times in order to achieve a unique surface texture.
The moon has a lightly curved form, echoing the shape of the moon, and is detailed with three flying bats. These have been meticulously hand cut from silver sheet and soldered in place.
‘The Bat Moon’ hangs from one of my ‘Unity’ chains which is finished with my handmade fixings.
The silver has been oxidised and highlighted. Oxidisation is a surface treatment that can lighten with wear. I give all oxidised areas a coat of sealing lacquer and then microcrystalline wax to help protect the oxidised surface.
As with all of my pieces, each and every jump ring is soldered closed to prevent any piece of the pendant coming apart or getting lost.
